mae was established in 2018 by amanda mae foster.
after spending over a decade in the beauty industry, amanda was diagnosed with lymphoma. organic color saved her life, and her career after her oncologist suggested she quit her job working with toxic hair color. she began to dream of a collaborative place where stylists can form a love for clean beauty, and where she could educate the community about the harmful chemicals in everyday beauty products. she had a salon in the heart of the flat iron district in NYC, and closed it due to the pandemic. she now has 4 beautiful adopted children, and has simplified her life by scaling back her salon responsibilities. she now works with her hair bestie maggie phelps at Pinky Swear in nashville. amanda named the salon after her late grandmother (whom she was named after) thelma mae morley, who passed away of lymphoma before she was born.
